(WJAR) — The Potter League for Animals needs your help as they look to find a new home for a special canine.

"Zeus" is a 4-year-old German Shepherd Husky and potentially Wolf mix.

Zeus tips the scales at more than a hundred pounds and is playful, energetic, loving, good with other dogs, cats and kids too, of course loves snacks. Oh, and lots of kisses.

He was brought to the Potter League for Animals on Dec. 22nd by his owner that travels a lot and couldn't give him the attention he needs and deserves. Zeus also has periodic epileptic seizures that require medication.

"We were told his genetic makeup is one-third German Shepherd, one-third Husky, and then one-third wolf. That's the information that we're currently working off of," Kara Montalbano of the League told NBC 10 News.

A saliva sample was taken and then sent out to a lab that will determine Zeus's genetic makeup, including any part wolf. Results are expected within the next few weeks from an accredited lab.

Canine wolf-hybrids are not legal in a number of states, including Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. However, they are legal in Vermont and New Jersey. The results of the genetic testing will determine where Zeus can go.

"It's more of a home environment,” added Montalbano. “Obviously with space to roam, and you know, enjoy outside. However, a sanctuary, because of his medical condition, is not suitable for him."

The League's Facebook post looking for help in legally placing Zeus, preferably in a home, not shelter, setting, has garnered thousands of comments and shares, some as you would expect, critical and full of conjecture, others sympathetic.

Bottom line: Zeus may be a handful, but needs a good home, part wolf or not.

"His quality of life is utmost the more important part of what we're doing," Montalbano said.
